AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination and is a nationally recognized system of student-centered strategies designed to actively engage our scholars in their own learning. Based on more than 35 years of research and rigorous standards, the program focuses on writing-to-learn, inquiry, collaboration, organization and reading for comprehension. This allows college preparatory classes to be accessible to all students.
The AVID Elective class targets students in the academic middle, who have the desire to go to college and are capable of completing rigorous curriculum using the will to work hard. Students are positioned for success in our most academically challenging courses, such as honors or Advanced Placement. AVID Elective Course Teaches disciplined study and organizational habits such as note taking, daily note review, and incorporation of new understanding into previous knowledge.
