JUNIOR POPES BASKETBALL Information
PIUS XI CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL - JUNIOR POPES BOYS BASKETBALL OVERVIEW
Mission Statement: Junior Popes Basketball provides an opportunity for young people to grow as basketball players in a fun and safe environment centered on skill development, teamwork, and positive coaching.
Program Goal: To enhance each player's love for the game of basketball through the building of fundamental skills and confidence, fueled by enthusiastic and positive coaches.
Program Overview: Pius XI Catholic High School Boys Basketball program invites 3rd through 8th grade boys interested in attending Pius XI Catholic High School, to tryout for the Junior Popes Basketball program.
Due to our teams having limited numbers of spots, the Junior Popes Basketball program utilizes the tryout process to build teams each year, and therefore not all registrants make a team. This program is highly competitive and requires a great deal of commitment.
4th to 8th grade teams play in the Wisconsin Youth Basketball League (WYBL) every other Sunday in a two-game/day format. 3rd grade teams play in the OAW League in New Berlin every other weekend. League games start the first week of November and run through February/early March.
Practices will start mid-October. Practice dates, times and locations will vary based on Pius XI Catholic High School Fieldhouse and area gym availability.
Program Fees, Eligibility and Commitment
Grades: 3rd-8th Boys
Fees:
Player Eligible Requirements: Players must meet one (1) of the below scenarios to be eligible to play Junior Popes Basketball.
*8th Grade Junior Pope Players are required to:
*Please note - Failure to meet these requirements will result in the player being ineligible to participate in Junior Popes Basketball. Parents will receive contacts within the Pius XI Catholic High School admissions department to help achieve the requirements.
Code of Conduct: Each Junior Pope player and their parents will be required to sign and adhere to our Junior Popes Basketball Code of Conduct. The code of conduct describes the behaviors, attitudes and commitment required to be a part of the Junior Popes Basketball program representing Pius XI Catholic High School. Any violation of the code of conduct will result in removal of the player from Junior Popes basketball.
Tournaments: Playing in tournaments will be up to the coach and parents at each grade level. If you do decide to enter in any tournaments, please know that the player fee may increase to cover tournament fees.
Volunteers and Fundraising: It is required that each Junior Pope parent/guardian volunteer a minimum of one (1) three-hour shift each season. The Pius XI Fieldhouse is a host site each weekend for girls and boys youth basketball leagues (WYBL specifically) and hosts summer league and AAU tournaments during the year. This presents a great opportunity to raise funds through concessions sales during these highly attended events. Funds raised through concessions will go directly to the Junior Popes Program to help offset Junior Popes Basketball program costs and to support the Pius XI Athletic Association. More information on volunteer opportunities is provided closer to the season.
