ENGINEERING THE JACK-O'-LANTERN
OCT 31
We will be creating reusable Jack-o'-lanterns using 3D printed, laser cut, and routed parts. We will also be discussing the technology used to create these. Students will be able to take their Jack-o'-lanterns home with them. This will also be the first opportunity for prospective students to be in and use the Applied Learning Lab.

FIZZ, FLOAT, & FREEZE CHEMISTRY LAB
In the Chemistry session we will watch things bubble, fizz and pop. We'll decide if items will sink, hover or float. And finally, we'll find out how to make a good cold pack. Feel and act like a scientist as you measure, combine and test for outcomes.
Chemical and Physical Changes - Students will mix sodium bicarbonate, calcium chloride, universal indicator and water to see which combinations are physical changes, which are chemical changes and what is responsible for the fizzing.
Sink, Hover, Float Lab - In this experiment about Density, students will try to make a container sink, float and hover in water. Sink and Float are easy but can you get the container to hover??
A Good Cold Pack - We use cold packs for all kinds of reasons but what chemicals are responsible for making the best cold packs. We will test eight different compounds to find the best!!

CREATE AND GROW - BIOLOGY LAB
Two Activities in this special Holiday lab!
Micropipette-by-number Ornaments: students will use a tool called a micropipette to create a Christmas Ornament! Micropipettes are used by scientists to transfer tiny, specific amounts of liquid, so students can practice their lab skills while creating colorful designs on their paper ornaments.
Mini Terrariums: students will create a mini ecosystem for a small succulent plant to live in. They will figure out the correct combination of soils to use and design a care plan for their plant to stay healthy. They will even get to add some small animal figurines to "live" in their terrariums.
