Before the hallways fill with students and the rhythm of the school year begins, there is an important week of preparation happening behind the scenes.
Our Back-to-School preparation week brought our faculty and staff together to reconnect, prepare, pray, serve, and focus on the mission that will guide us throughout the year ahead.
Preparing for Our Students
For our teachers, the week included many of the familiar traditions that come with the start of a new school year: organizing classrooms, reviewing class rosters, refining lesson plans, preparing materials, collaborating with colleagues, and making sure every detail is ready for students to walk through the doors.
But preparation for a new year is about much more than classrooms and curriculum.
Throughout the week, our entire staff gathered for meetings and conversations focused on our shared priorities and the important responsibility we have to the students and families we serve. An essential part of that preparation was reviewing our important safety drills and procedures so that every member of our faculty and staff is prepared to help provide a safe, secure, and caring environment for our students.
We also had the opportunity to put our mission of service into action. Together, our staff participated in a service project in preparation for the arrival of our students. It was a meaningful reminder that service is not simply something we ask of our students—it is something we are called to model ourselves.
And, of course, we made time for fellowship—reconnecting with colleagues, sharing stories from the summer, and strengthening the relationships that make our school community special.
Beginning in Faith
Central to our preparation was the opportunity to gather as a staff for Mass presided over by Fr. Phillip Bogacki '99 in our Chapel.
Beginning the school year together in prayer reminds us that the work of Catholic education is more than a profession. It is a vocation and a shared ministry.
This year, that calling took on special significance as each member of our faculty and staff was commissioned into service for the new school year. Together, we renewed our commitment to the students entrusted to our care and to the mission we share as Catholic educators.
We were also blessed to be ministered to by Dr. Michelle Gilgannon, Ph.D., one of our theology teachers, who helped center our hearts and minds on the deeper purpose of our work. Her reflection offered our staff an opportunity to step away from the busyness of preparing classrooms and schedules and reflect on the faith that grounds our ministry.
Each day, our faculty and staff have the opportunity to help young people discover their God-given gifts, grow in knowledge and wisdom, strengthen their character and moral foundation, deepen their faith, and understand their responsibility to serve others.
Scripture reminds us of this responsibility:
“We will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power, and the wonders he has done.” — Psalm 78:4
Those words beautifully capture the responsibility entrusted to Catholic educators. We are preparing students not simply for their next class, their next exam, or even their next step after graduation. We are helping form young people for lives of faith, purpose, leadership, and service.
Honoring Experience and Welcoming New Energy
This year, we are especially grateful to welcome back many of our longtime and legacy teachers and staff.
Their years of service represent an extraordinary commitment to our students and our mission. They carry with them the traditions, relationships, and experiences that have helped shape generations of young people who have passed through our halls.
At the same time, we are excited to welcome new members of our faculty and staff. They bring new ideas, experiences, talents, and enthusiasm to our community, and we look forward to the many ways their gifts will strengthen our school.
Together, with those who have served for decades and those just beginning their journey with us, we are united by the same purpose: to care for the next generation, nurture the gifts God has placed within each student, and help them recognize that they are Built to Burn Bright—called to live with faith, purpose, courage, and a light that serves others.
Ready to Begin
The classrooms have been prepared. Lessons have been planned. Safety procedures have been reviewed. Meetings have been held. We have served side by side. Our faculty and staff have prayed together, laughed together, learned together, and been commissioned together for the important work ahead.
We begin this year renewed in our faith, strengthened by one another, and united in our mission.
Now comes the best part.
It’s time to welcome our students.
We look forward to another year of learning, faith, friendship, growth, and service—and we ask God’s blessing upon our students, families, faculty, and staff as we begin this journey together.
