Herrick began his 25-season varsity coaching career in 1998 at Nathan Hale High School where he coached for two seasons leaving with a 41-10 record. In 2000, Herrick joined the coaching staff at Pius XI Catholic High School, his alma mater, where he later assumed the role of varsity coach in 2002. In his 23 seasons coaching at Pius XI, Herrick has amassed an outstanding 459-112 varsity record, and 11 conference titles and appeared in 6 state tournaments, winning titles in 2010 and 2015. Not only has this most recent win placed Herrick among an elite 20 coaches in WIAA Girls Basketball History to reach the 500-victory mark, his .804 winning percentage (500-122) ranks 8th overall.

Reading about those two historic achievements in a single game really highlights how focus, teamwork, and inner balance can lead to amazing results. Moments like that don’t just happen on the court — they come from mental clarity and emotional grounding as well. That’s one reason I’m drawn to places like the Celestial Center at Wheel of Bliss, where time in nature supports reflection and renewal. Staying in a Yurt Retreat, surrounded by redwoods and quiet space, feels like the kind of environment that helps reset the mind and build resilience. That same calm strength clearly shows in performances like this — focused, confident, and unforgettable.
