PIUS XI HALL OF FAME

 ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME BYLAWS 

Mission Statement:

 To honor notable past Pius XI Athletic Program participants, teams, coaches, to exemplify role models for the current student athletes, and to renew the Pius spirit that was established during their years of active participation. 

 

The rules of procedure and mechanics for the election of members to the Pius XI Catholic High School Hall of Fame as well as Committees therein, are as follows. 

 

ARTICLE I – ELIGIBILITY 

Eligibility shall be based primarily upon the exceptional, active participation in the athletic programs of Pius XI High School. Eligibility shall not begin until ten years after a student nominee has graduated from Pius, or ten years after the beginning of coaching or service to Pius XI Athletics. Nominees from the following categories will be considered eligible. 

 

ARTICLE II - QUALIFICATIONS 

A. Athletes – These individuals shall be chosen on the basis of notable achievements, playing ability, integrity, sportsmanship, character, and contribution (while they were Pius XI students) to the team or teams on which the participants played; along with their contribution to Pius XI community in general. 

 

B. Teams –These group awards shall be based upon the same standards of excellence that qualify individual inductees, especially superior and exemplary achievements as a team. 

 

C. Coaches – Those individuals who have contributed selflessly (as coaches) to the advancement of their teams, while illustrating commendable leadership and motivational capabilities in pursuit of “Pius XI Excellence”. 

 

D. Special – Those individuals who have performed outstanding, meritorious service in the advancement of the Pius XI athletic programs. 

 

ARTICLE III – RECURRING EVENT LIMITATIONS 

No more than (11) new members may be selected as deemed appropriate by the “Hall of Fame Selection Committee” for any given induction ceremony. Not more than (3) teams will be selected for a given induction ceremony unless done so in a combined, single induction approach. 

 

Nominees must be present to be formally accepted as a Pius XI Hall of Fame member, except in the case of a posthumous induction when a representative of the inductee will be permitted. 

 

The Pius XI Catholic High School Athletics Hall of Fame shall host the induction ceremony every year. 

 

ARTICLE IV – HALL OF FAME GOVERNANCE AND COMMITTEES 

The Pius XI Athletic Hall of Fame Organization shall be hereby positioned under the Pius XI Board Athletics Committee, at the direction of the Athletics Committee Board Chairman, Athletic Director and HOF Executive Committee which collectively shall have operational autonomy and independence to execute upon the Hall of Fame Mission. The Executive Committee shall be responsible for managing and producing the Athletics Hall of Fame Event, facilitating the selection process as performed by the Hall of Fame Selection Committee and for the physical area/s and form of display of Hall of Fame Inductees and personal history thereof. The Hall of Fame Committees and Advisory Team shall consist of the following membership and operate within the following process guidelines: 

  1. Advisory Team members are selected by the Executive Committee for their deep institutional knowledge of former athletes, teams and supporters throughout Pius XI Athletics’ history. This Team of Advisors reviews a broad list of nominees assembled by the Executive Committee and provides basis and opinions on a recommended, smaller group of inductees to be voted upon. Advisory Team recommendations are reviewed and discussed by the Executive Committee for any last adjustments, final agreement, and subsequent distribution to the Selection Committee for final voting. 
     

  2. Membership of the Selection Committee shall consist of no less than (11) and no greater than (25) members. The Selection Committee members’ participation is predominantly for nominees’ review and voting purposes as well as special requests for assistance by the Executive Committee if needed. 
     

  3. Selection Committee Members shall be selected from the original membership roster, retired with honor and recognition of service when necessary and may be replaced with new members. New members shall reflect a variety of age brackets, gender and minority balance and shall possess Pius XI depth of athletics history knowledge and experience to ensure the continuation of the Pius XI Athletics Hall of Fame tradition for decades to come. 
     

  4. To avoid any public perception of favoritism, Selection Committee Membership shall not include active Pius XI Head Coaches except for coaches with 10-years or more of coaching experience at Pius XI. The Athletic Director shall serve as the representative for active Head Coaches with fewer than 10 years’ experience. 
     

  5. The Athletics Hall of Fame Chairman shall be selected by the Pius XI Athletic Director and Pius XI Board Athletics Committee Chairman with a majority vote of the Executive Committee. The Hall of Fame Committee Chairman shall be authorized and responsible for directing and managing the Executive Committee and any Special Project Committees as may be needed to execute on the Mission of the Pius XI Athletics Hall of Fame. The Chairman post shall be a two-year appointment renewed by vote of the Executive Committee. The Chairman post has no limitations on the number of terms served, individually or consecutively. 
     

  6. The Executive Committee, members of which shall consist of the Board Athletics Committee Chairman, Athletic Director and (5-9) other members as recommended by the Executive Committee Chairman. The Executive Committee shall be responsible for producing and managing all facets of the Hall of Fame Event, administering the selection process and assigning certain tasks to other Committees and Advisory groups. Rotation of Executive Committee membership over time shall be at the direction of the Executive Committee Chairman in consultation with the other members of the Executive Committee. Newly recommended members to the Executive Committee shall be added to the Committee by the majority vote of the Committee Members. Advisory personnel may be added from time to time to assist in the production of the event or for special projects. Advisory personnel are non-voting participants. 
     

  7. The Executive Committee shall coordinate and work in collaboration with the Pius XI VP of Advancement, Alumni Director and Finance Director for purposes of efficient Athletics Hall of Fame Event execution including but not limited to: alumni and public communications, financial accounting, registration systems and sponsorship coordination. All funds received for matters related to the Hall of Fame shall be deposited in a designated Pius XI Athletics Hall of Fame school account, funds of which shall only be used for Athletics Hall of Fame purposes. 

 

ARTICLE V – AMENDMENTS 

These articles may be amended by written petition of the Executive Committee with input from other Committee Members if needed and require a majority vote of Executive Committee Members present at the meeting. Any changes shall be included in these Bylaws and redistributed to the Members.

Serving students in the Milwaukee area since 1929, Pius XI Catholic High School. Today, Pius XI is Milwaukee’s and Southeastern Wisconsin’s most diverse co-educational Catholic high school, serving a student body of approximately 720 students. Our college preparatory programming provides students with Advanced Placement and dual-enrollment courses; a nationally-recognized, four-year Fine Arts program with a full range of Performing and Visual Arts; a four-year Project Lead the Way Engineering program; and a Special Studies program with certified special education teachers for students with learning disabilities. Pius XI offers 24 athletic programs and more than 24 co-curricular activities.
