Welcome to Pius XI Boys Golf
For over three decades, the Pius XI "Popes" Boys Golf program has been synonymous with excellence, tradition, and competitive spirit. What began as a dominant force in Wisconsin independent school golf has evolved into one of the Woodland West Conference's most consistent and respected programs.
Our legacy was forged in the WISAA era of the 1990s, where we claimed multiple state championships and established ourselves as a powerhouse in private school athletics. Since transitioning to WIAA competition in 2000, we've carried that winning tradition forward—advancing to sectionals in four of the last five seasons and consistently finishing among the top teams in our conference.
This tradition continued in 2025, when our team advanced to the WIAA Division 1 Sectional at Rivermoor Golf Club in Waterford. Led by strong performances from Gabe Polterermann (86), Gabe Frey (89), and Lucas Repenshek (90), the Popes posted a team score of 358 and once again proved they belong among Wisconsin's elite golf programs. It marked another successful postseason appearance for a program that has made sectionals a consistent expectation rather than an exception.
But our program is about more than trophies and tournament results. It's about developing young men who understand that golf is a game of integrity, discipline, and continuous improvement. Whether you're a seasoned player looking to compete at the highest level or a beginner discovering the game for the first time, Pius XI Golf offers a place to grow your skills, build lasting friendships, and represent your school with pride.

The Pius XI Catholic High School Boys Golf program stands as one of the school's most distinguished athletic traditions, combining competitive excellence with the values of sportsmanship, discipline, and integrity that define the Pius XI mission. For decades, the Popes have established themselves as one of the premier high school golf programs in Wisconsin, with achievements that span individual and team accomplishments.
Championship Legacy
The Pius XI Boys Golf program boasts an impressive championship history, including WISAA State Championships that established the Popes as a dominant force in Wisconsin high school golf. As the program transitioned to WIAA competition, the tradition of excellence continued with numerous conference championships, regional titles, and state tournament appearances that showcase the program's consistent success.
In conference play, the Popes have established themselves as perennial contenders, capturing multiple Woodland Conference championships through the decades. These team achievements reflect not only individual talent but the program's emphasis on depth, consistency, and mental toughness—qualities that translate from the golf course to all aspects of life.
Recent Woodland Conference Standings
The "Popes" compete in the Woodland West Conference. Since 2022, the team has consistently been a mid-to-top tier contender:
2025 Season:
•Mega-Meet #1: Competitive showing in early-season conference play.
•Postseason: Advanced to the WIAA Division 1 Sectional tournament after strong regional play.
2022-2024 Seasons:
•2022 Woodland Championship: Finished with strong individual performances, including Ryan Conway shooting a 77.
•Consistency: True to coach's 2022 comments, the program has reached the Sectional level in four of the last five seasons, often finishing within the top 4 of conference major meets.

+3 Championship Heritage (WIAA Transition)
•Sectional Contenders: In the WIAA era, Pius XI frequently finishes in the top 3 of regionals to advance to sectionals (e.g., 3rd place in 2011).
State Appearances:
While still chasing a WIAA team state title, the program has sent numerous individual qualifiers to the State Tournament at University Ridge and Blackwolf Run. In the 2025 postseason, the Pius XI Boys Golf team continued its tradition of excellence by advancing to the WIAA Division 1 Sectional tournament held at Rivermoor Golf Club in Waterford.

Individual Scores At the Waterford Sectional on June 3, 2025, the team posted a combined score of 358, led by consistent individual performances. Gabe Polterermann 86, Gabe Frey 89, Lucas Repenshek 90, Quinn Alimi 93 and Colin Sincere 100
