Pius XI Track & Field:

(CONTINUED)

Program Level Purpose, Goals, & Objectives:

VARSITY (ELITE)

Purpose

The Varsity (Elite) level serves the student athlete who is prepared to train and compete at a championship level using a developmentally appropriate, college‑style training model – scaled in volume and intensity for high school athletes – similar to the progressive, athlete‑centered systems used at elite programs around the country.

This group sets the competitive and cultural standard for the entire program, embodying discipline, technical mastery, and spiritual maturity. The meet schedule mirrors the expectations of elite programs, where athletes are exposed to high‑quality competition that accelerates development.

Training follows a sprint‑first philosophy for sprints, hurdles, and jumps, emphasizing speed, mechanics, and technical precision. Training meets each athlete where they are and provides a clear pathway for continued advancement through the season, and if desired, the college level.

Goals

·Compete at a championship level with technical mastery, tactical intelligence, and spiritual maturity.

·Lead the program through example, service, and shared accountability, reflecting the leadership expectations emphasized in USATF and USTFCCCA coaching frameworks.

·Execute fundamentals at high speed and under competitive stress.

·Maintain habits that reflect discipline, faith, and a commitment to legacy.

·Represent the program with integrity in school, church, home, and community.

Objectives

·Achieve consistent, high‑quality execution in event‑specific technical skills.

·Maintain elite strength, mobility, and work capacity throughout the season.

·Demonstrate resilience and composure in high‑pressure environments, similar to the competitive demands seen in elite programs.

·Mentor developing athletes and elevate team culture.

·Compete with purpose, gratitude, and confidence rooted in Christ.

VARSITY (RESERVE)

Purpose

The Varsity (Reserve) level prepares developing student-athletes for the demands of Varsity Elite by strengthening fundamentals, refining technique, and building the physical and mental capacity required for high‑level competition. This mirrors the developmental pipelines used by elite programs, where athletes progress through structured tiers of readiness.

The meet schedule is intentionally aligned with their developmental stage – challenging but appropriate – similar to how successful programs strategically place athletes in meets that match their readiness.

Training follows a sprint‑first philosophy emphasizing speed, rhythm, and technical consistency. Training meets athletes where they are and provides a structured pathway toward Varsity (Elite) readiness.

Goals

·Build the technical consistency and physical readiness needed for varsity‑level performance.

·Strengthen foundational habits that support long‑term athletic and spiritual growth.

·Develop confidence, discipline, and competitive poise through progressive challenges.

·Contribute to team culture through effort, attitude, and teachability.

·Prepare athletes to transition into Varsity Elite roles as they mature.

Objectives

·Increase strength, mobility, and aerobic/anaerobic capacity in alignment with USATF developmental models.

·Demonstrate reliability in practice habits, attendance, and coachability.

·Compete with growing confidence and tactical awareness.

·Show spiritual maturity through humility, perseverance, and service.

JUNIOR VARSITY (JV)

Purpose

The JV level introduces student-athletes to the culture, expectations, and fundamentals of the Pius XI T&F program while building the physical literacy, confidence, and discipline required for long‑term development. This aligns with USATF’s emphasis on foundational skill acquisition and age‑appropriate training.

The meet schedule reflects an introductory competitive experience appropriate for emerging athletes, similar to the developmental meet structures used by successful programs for early‑stage athletes.

Training follows a sprint‑first philosophy emphasizing movement quality, coordination, and foundational speed. Training meets athletes where they are and provides a clear pathway toward Varsity Reserve readiness.

Goals

·Teach foundational movement patterns, event basics, and training habits.

·Build confidence through skill acquisition, positive reinforcement, and steady improvement.

·Foster a love for the sport rooted in effort, teamwork, and faith‑driven purpose.

·Establish discipline, consistency, and personal responsibility.

·Prepare athletes for advancement into Varsity Reserve as they develop.

·Learn and demonstrate proper mechanics in running, jumping, and throwing fundamentals.

·Improve strength, mobility, coordination, and general athleticism.
